There's long been reality shows for singers, dancers, entrepreneurs and bakers. Now aspiring writers can join the fray of this competitive TV genre.

Eckstut says the series will have a nice Great British Baking Show vibe, “where you see how heartwarming and exciting it is to watch ordinary people pursuing their dreams.”

Writing as reality show? Kwame Alexander pitches "America's Next Great Author."

“It’s a show whose mission is to elevate writers, not use them," Eckstut tells me. "We want it to be a supportive environment without the ‘Survivor’ element.”

“Right from the beginning, there were certain people in the television—and publishing—world whose eyes just lit up when they heard about America’s Next Great Author,” Sterry said. “They understand just how many Americans want to write books.”

Kwame Alexander will host the pilot of a new literary reality show “geared toward anyone who loves drama on or off the page”...

…ANGA will give its contestants one minute to pitch their novels to a panel of judges that includes New York Times bestselling author Jason Reynolds, Fox5 TV presenter Angie Goff, and stage writer and comedian Marga Gomez.

In the pilot episode, writers will pitch their book to a panel of judges, including Jason Reynolds. The most promising writer in this pilot episode will win $2,500.

Jokes aside, if this show makes it to air, I will obviously be watching. In the meantime, I will be workshopping elimination catchphrases…
